for 1 vs. 1 combat. This fixes some problems which were found in the original demo. This demo starts from the beginning of the game as you and your fellow squad-mates make landfall in Earth’s epic invasion of the Strogg home planet. You’ll battle through two large areas at the beginning of the game, including a heavily guarded Strogg installation and the chaotic air defense trenches cut through the desolate Stroggos landscape. The demo also offers enough multiplayer action to keep you competing online for days, with two versions of the popular map, “The Fragging Yard” – one for larger matches and another specially designed for 1 vs. 1 combat. The maps are playable in Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Tournament modes.

a dual core processor. The update is also required for Windows and Linux server admins as it addresses a recently identified problem with servers left unoccupied for very long periods of time (these servers will appear to be operating normally, but will crash clients that attempt to connect to them). This update will bring any previous version of the game (1.0.0 or 1.0.4) up to date and will not affect pure server, PunkBuster compatibility or protocol consistency. id Software and Raven have worked with Intel to dramatically improve QUAKE 4 performance on systems with HT Technology, multiple processors, or dual core processors. Players who have a system with one of these configurations will notice performance gains in QUAKE 4 of anywhere from 25% - 87% depending on processor type. If you do not know whether or not you have a multi-processor, dual core, or HT Technology enabled system, please see the ReadMe file for simple instructions on checking your system. Please use the form at www.idsoftware.com/bugs/ to report any issues you find with the 1.0.5 update. Finally, although they\'ve released only small (but critical) updates to QUAKE 4 so far, they are working on a much broader update for release early next year, and also have a couple of multiplayer map packs currently being tested for release in the near future. Stay tuned.

advise your viewers that may be using the current 1.1 beta and/or final to NOT enable widescreen or disable widescreen if they are currently using it." So as said, do not change your widescreen settings until we post an updated patch (no ETA) The QUAKE 4 1.1 Point Release update is now available. This highly anticipated patch addresses a number of issues throughout both single and multiplayer, with a heavy and attentive focus on improving the multiplayer experience. Such improvements include: a fixed pure server system, a new AddonPak autodownloading system, voice chat in multiplayer, a forcemodel option, brightskins, smooth stair-jumping, a one-minute warning for tournament matches, Hyper-Threading Technology and Dual Core support as well as a ton of multiplayer specific fixes which have been requested by the community and discovered during our own gameplay. This update also includes four new professionally made multiplayer maps— free for your fragging pleasure. There are 2 new DM maps and 2 new CTF maps, including a CTF version of the popular "The Edge" map. In addition to these four maps, we've also included the free QUAKEMAS map pack that we released in December. Please see below for screenshots of the new maps. This update will bring any previous version of the game completely up to date, however it will affect pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players who update to 1.1 will only be able to play multiplayer against other 1.1 users, and save games and demos created on previous versions of the game will not be compatible with the 1.1 update. For a complete list of new features, fixes, and changes, please see the Readme file. Map Descriptions: Outpatient (q4dm10) - Cold, blood-stained hallways and flickering fluorescent lights set the mood in this once active Strogg medical complex. The heart-pounding pace of this map will keep players racing through the winding corridors, but only the quickest will survive. In addition to traditional DM, Outpatient can also be played in Team Deathmatch and Tourney modes. Skeleton Crew (q4dm11) - The dark empty void that surrounds this stranded space station offers no pity for those lost in battle. This multi level arena generates fast paced action that commands the attention of players in all skill levels. Expert navigation of the twists and turns that lead from deck to deck will be your only ally. Engage your foes in Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch games. As an added challenge you can also battle it out 1v1 style in Tourney mode. Mind the Gap (q5ctf6) - This massive processing factory uses alien technology to mine from the core of Stroggos itself -- be sure to Mind The Gap in each base which only leads to an inescapable abyss and your death. This multi-tiered structure defies description and will leave only the heartiest and most cunning soldiers as the victors! Contest your team’s supremacy in CTF or Arena CTF modes. Double Edged (q4ctf8) - Double Edged revisits the Quake II(tm) classic… with a twist – Capture the Flag! The battle arena has been doubled so brush up on your long range weapon skills, but don’t fret if your Rail isn’t exactly “impressive”. You’ll also find some tight corridors for those of you more comfortable with in-your-face combat. Destined to be a classic in its own right, settle those team grudge matches in this remix of a classic in CTF or Arena CTF battle.

making it easy for players to find matches to spectate. Improved Hitboxes: Multiplayer matches now use 8-sided collision boxes (right image) in place of the previous 4-sided prism (left). The new hitboxes more accurately represent the player model dimensions. Serverside Adjustable Tick Rate: The new serverside command, si_fps, allows server administrators to customize the game tick rate. Default is set to 60 fps, which is consistent with previous releases. However if set higher, server and clients will tick faster, allowing for tighter input control and higher Frames Per Second. Improved Sound: In addition to addressing dropped sounds, stuck hums, and performance issues when switching between windowed mode when using OpenAL, new ear seperation code has been written for stereo software sound. The new sound code is default in multiplayer only. Improved Netcode: Alterations to the network code, including optimizations and new client side configurable traffic management has lead to improved bandwidth usage. Railgun Balancing: The railgun has had its damage reduced from 100 to 90. Also, its starting ammo (the amount of ammo available at the time of picking up the weapon) has been lowered from 10 slugs to 5, and its max ammo capacity has been lowered from 50 to 25. These changes coupled with the improved hitbox and the serverside adjustable tick rate more fairly balances the railgun against other weapons. Consistant Shotgun Spread: Shotguns in multiplayer matches now have improved and less random pellet spreads, producing a more regular pattern (bottom left image) in comparison to the more random spread seen in earlier versions (top left). Improved Napalm Splash The napalm weapon has been altered with a reduction in direct damage and an increase in residual area effect damage (not pictured). More Accessible Options: Commands such as r_forceAmbient and g_simpleitems, previously only available through the console, have been added to the GUI menus for ease of access.

1v1". Earth is under siege by an alien race. The Strogg are cybernetic warriors--a mechanical frame and decaying body parts stabilized by flesh consumed in a systematic annihilation of other species and civilizations. In a desperate attempt to survive a Strogg attack on Earth, an armada of Earth's finest warriors is sent to take the battle to the Strogg home planet. Earth's initial assault force is nearly annihilated immediately, but one marine manages to infiltrate the base, bring down their planetary defense systems, and kill the Strogg's collective brain and leader--the Makron. Earth assumed the destruction of the Makron would end it all, but it didn't. That's where QUAKE II leaves off and QUAKE 4 begins. The Strogg are quickly regrouping. However, with the Strogg's planetary defenses still destroyed, Earth's forces can deliver a full and final assault. This time, you're not alone. You are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, and part of Earth's next invasion wave. An army of soldiers are fighting with you and an arsenal of weapons and vehicles are at your disposal in this heroic and epic battle between worlds. ADDITION PLEASE READ: We have been informed today by Quake 4's publisher Activision that this demo version was released before its time and the multiplayer section of the demo will NOT work online, We have been assured they are working on this problem and we expect an updated version of the demo some time next week.

In addition to the changes and fixes outlined below, this update enables QUAKE 4 to take advantage of the SMP of Intel® Dual Core Processors. Players who have computer systems with this processor will notice significant performance gains in QUAKE 4. With the update, Macintosh systems with an Intel Dual Core processor, which uses the SMP, will have a performance jump of 15 to 30 percent. In short, systems with this technology will see the game run faster and smoother than before. As with any new technology, SMP is reliant upon several components working in unison. Such components include the motherboard, CPU, GPU, system ram and sound card.

as they do on Windows. Depending on your system ( CPU limited, GPU limited, processor cache sizes.. ), this may or may not improve performance. The SMP binary requires a modified version of the SDL library, which is shipped with the installer. A patch of the changes we applied to the lib is in the setup as well. Other things fixed: - no longer using SDL_ListModes to filter available resolutions ( use +set r_useSDLModes to re-enable, SDL_ListModes returns way too little of the possible resolutions ) - fix stalls that may happen with DNS resolution ( Linux bug only ) - fix a download bug: if the server is configured with some of the fs_*path cvars having a trailing slash, they might cut one character when returning download URLs. The download bug affects all operating systems. If you run a Windows server, make sure you don\'t have a trailing slash at the end of fs_basepath

direction of movement use g_playerLean to scale or disable the effect (client side) * fix wallhugging on ramps fix also makes ramps slightly faster * horizontal speed fully maintained when crouch sliding and hitting a ramp previous version had a little dip 1.4.1 had a bug that caused a sharp speed drop (this is also fixed) * RG ammo box 10->7 * si_fps limited to 90fps for q4mp/, now declared in gamecode so mods can change their max * predict weapon changes for the local client. more responsive on high ping (can be turned off with net_clientPredictWeaponSwitch 0) * revert the projectile code to 1.4.0, not trying to predict projectiles anymore the prediction code of 1.4.1 can be enabled with g_predictProjectiles 1 (client side) (was causing too many bad artifacts) * reworked the hit sounds / hit feedback propagation. fixed skipping problems * change network demo extension to include the protocol number for Quake 4 1.4.2, the extension is .ndmo85 * fix network demos not setting the si_fps value properly * fix client prediction being irregular when connected to a TV repeater * added r_skipSky for a cheap black sky * fix a crash in single player (sound related) * fix several SMP-related crashes * fix a crash in autodownload server * hud_showSpeed cvar (shows current horizontal speed) * hud_showInput cvar (shows the input state to learn how to make particular moves) * hud_InputPosition, alters where the showInput feedback is displayed * hud_InputColor, alters the highlight color of the showInput feedback * s_useOcclusion no longer cheat protected (can be changed by network clients now) * no gauntlet spinup time, damage is immediate now * bse_rateLimit defaults to 3, showing all shotgun pellet impacts * added g_nailTrail, g_grenadeTrail, g_rocketTrail, g_railTrail, g_napalmTrail to disable weapon trails * updated reference netdemo included for performance tests: id_perftest.ndmo85 The 1.4.2 update affects pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players who update to 1.4.2 from ANY previous version will only be able to connect and play against other 1.4.2 users. Quake 4 1.4 Beta patch (linux)

quake4linuxbeta1.4.0.x86.run | 237.88 MB

making it easy for players to find matches to spectate. More Accessible Options: Commands such as r_forceAmbient and g_simpleitems, previously only available through the console, have been added to the GUI menus for ease of access.

as they do on Windows.

Quake 4 v1.1 Beta Linux Patch

quake4linux1.1beta.3.x86.run | 54.91 MB

warning for tournament matches, fixed pure server autodownloading, Hyper-Threading Technology support, smooth stairjumping and a ton of multiplayer specific fixes which have been requested by the community and discovered during our own gameplay. In short, multiplayer is fixed. ;) For a complete list of new features, fixes, and changes, please see the ReadMe file. This update will bring any previous version of the game completely up to date, however it will affect pure server and protocol consistency. Therefore, players who update to 1.1 BETA will only be able to play multiplayer against other 1.1 BETA users, and save games created on previous versions of the game will not be compatible with the 1.1 BETA update. Please use the form at www.idsoftware.com/bugs/ to report any issues you find with the 1.1 BETA update. Once we are satisfied the 1.1 BETA is completely solid, we will release the FINAL 1.1 update. This will be a required update and will be available through the “Update” option in the game. With that release, we’ll also be including 4 all-new multiplayer maps in addition to the QUAKEMAS map pack (3 maps) that was released in December. We are currently working with the mod team community to deliver the 1.1 SDK and bring their mods current as soon as possible. Lastly, stay tuned in the coming months for additional free game content including new maps and gametypes.
