cool ;) Very nice job Jedi, keep makin those screens man!
you familiar with it) in the foreground. I\'m currently in a toss up between this, the recent Plo Koo startup, and the also recent Padme startup. Maybe someone can make a mod that rotates them for us, since it is so hard to choose!
Unsatisfied with the Matrix screen that was submitted here, Ash\'rak decided to create his own. Since he commented on the competition in his readme, I feel it necessary to compare. The Matrix start up screen that Ash\'rak refers to kept his design simple, even minimalistic. With as busy as Ash\'rak\'s background is on his start up screen, the font used for the words \"Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast\" almost disappears in the code. I do like how he reskinned the buttons, and I also like that he kept a bit of the Star Wars feel with the \"Star Wars\" text on top. However, there\'s just something about this start up screen that seems dull to me. Overall I\'d say it\'s a decent start up screen, though I don\'t see a start up screen worth downloading without new sounds, buttons reskinned and having a great design. But if you\'ve been looking for a fresh Matrix start up screen, then here ya go. ~AmosMagee
it helps you understand how impressive I found this startup to be. This is easily the best startup screen I have seen yet. As you can see from the screenie, this is nothing more than a closeup of Darth Maul\'s face, withthe JK2 logo re-done in new text. Simple, elegant, menacing, wonderful job. \'Nuff said! On my personal scale it gets a 9. If John Leitner had given it reddish buttons to match, I\'d say it can\'t get any better than that. Well done! If the other screens promised in the readme are this good, then John has seriously raised the bar on startup screen design! I say it time and time again...simple is most effective! New Background: Yes New Buttons: No New Sounds: No Astyanax
But very nice other than that!
many other suprises. colors are: red, purple, green, yellow and orange.
Tired of the seeing the same color over and over again? Well now is your chance to change all that, with this mod.
Sound effects for the buttons have been added from the Matrix universe as well. One thing I liked about this in particular is that the word \"Matrix\" is nowhere on this startup screen. It just looks like the Matrix...so it\'s in theme, but it\'s not a commercial. Nice touch. ;) The only gripe I have is that the copyright notice is a little big and technically not correct. LucasArts does not permit copyrighting mods on their work...but that\'s a small thing, really. A very timely release, considering this is the Year of the Matrix. Recommended if you\'re a Matrix nut! New Background: Yes New Buttons: Yes New Sounds: Yes Astyanax
just slapping a screencap horribly.
used. IMO, this is a pretty good bit of work. The background is a bit simplistic, but it is well done. On a side note, if you have a solid black desktop, the screen blends in to the desktop. Go ahead and download this and wait for the next startup screen to come out. :) Technical Data: Pros: 1. New sounds 2. Good color coordination Cons: 1. Over-simplistic Rating: 8/10 JEDIofONE :mepimp:
like how the author paid attention to the KOTOR game enough to put this code in. Anyways, good job! 7/10 ~ReVan~
as soon as I tossed the file into my Install folder and started up my game, I was disappointed. As you can see from the screenshot, the name at the top is mostly cut off and then the buttons cover up the focus of the picture. Maybe if DarkSithMaster wants to hone his skills at startup screen making, he\'ll update this one and even try his hand at changing the look of the buttons and maybe even include some sounds! Good luck with your future projects! ~AmosMagee
you didn't know that, this file is not for you ;)). The text, and hover noise have not been changed, but when you click on Single or Multiplayer, you hear the voice of Morpheus before the game begins to load. With the upcoming release of the final movie in the trilogy, this little mod is great if you just want to whet your appetite for the movie whenever you launch JK2. Honestly, I had almost forgotten about the Matrix until I plugged in this new startup screen. Some kind of dedicated fan I am, huh? Moving right along, the quote from Morpheus that is used when you execute either Single or Multiplayer is quite appropriate, and the picture used as the background looks great, exactly what I would expect from of a high quality start-up screen. The only thing I would've liked to see to make this a complete mod, in my mind, would have been to change the text to the font used in The Matrix title, or at least enlarge the standard text to stand out a bit. But otherwise, this little mod is great, keep up the good work! :) ~Lord Griever~
screen... Images are overlapping in quite a few places. Good try though. -Crawlius
text stating "Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast". Oh yeah, there aren't any new sounds, either. Well, I have to say that this is a tiny improvement from his last start up screens featuring Doctor Octopus from Spiderman (3 times! :) ) and The Lord of the Rings start up screen with Aragorn hidden behind the buttons :). It would be nice if Topp_matt could create some new buttons and adding some new sounds, rather than just creating a somewhat unprofessional looking bmp file for his next start up screen. I also suggest at least using an out of the ordinary font for the "Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast" text, maybe somehow relating the font to the theme. It would also look a bit cleaner if “Jedi Outcast” was aligned with the rest of the title. But I have to say, the creator is getting better at it, and who knows? Maybe next time you'll surprise us :). Nothing revolutionary here though, so if your in desperate need for a new start up screen, and have a deep interest in The Pirates of the Caribbean, then go right ahead and downloooaaddd! -ima007
featuring Kyle. All the pictures of him are from skins ingame (and they look quite good :D). There are new buttons too which have the JK2 saber logo! Install: Extract the files to your JK2/Install folder. Just make sure you don\'t overwrite files (best is to keep a backup ;))

coolest looking startups!
else distracting from his amazing dark twistiness. No other changes have been made, though, so buttons and sounds will be the same as they've always been. ~Inyri
startup screens and Leitner seems to have that the startup screen formula down pat. Anything with Aragorn on it, I\'m gonna like. ;) But, I do think this may be too simplistic. It would be nice to have some new sounds for the mouseovers, or maybe just new buttons. But it looks good, as is. :) ~AmosMagee
new start-up screen, but some people enjoy it. The sounds are about 1 second to 3 seconds long. I really think this is not a necessity, but its a nice add-on. If you love Obi-Wan then this is one for you, If you love Vader then this one is for you too! The part he took from the movie was the part where Darth Vader and Obi-Wan fight in A New Hope. Overall nothing too special here, but one thing I really like about this start-up screen is that it has new sounds so we don’t hear those annoying ones. A thing that would make it even better is to change the buttons a bit more to make the start-up screen look fabulous! So for all you Obi-Wan and Darth Vader fans start lining up for your copy of Darth Vader Vs. Obi Wan Start-Up Screen call 1-800-I-Love-Starwars in the next 5 minutes for a free copy of how to read an encyclopedia, it’s a $29.99 value! -XgamerX New Sounds: Yes

really need three of the same image kinda haphazardly thrown together into a startup screen for JK2? I certainly don't. And really, that's all this is, is three pics of Doc Ock. There are no new sounds, the buttons haven't changed and there's just no real design changes at all. Am I being harsh? Meh. I'm being ... apathetic. I've never understood the point of a startup screen. How long do you actually spend time looking at it? You start it up, click a button and then you're like, playing. So you spend a total of 2.3 seconds staring at the screen? Bah. I say leave it as it is and don't bother downloading a startup screen at all. But, that's just me. If you're a huge fan of all things Spiderman and must have this startup screen of Doc Ock, then by all means, download it! ~AmosMagee
sounds! Personally I like the idea behind startup screens, but in the end i believe they\'re impractical. With the number of people who use gamespy and all seeing eye, startup screens are starting to fade out as they\'re getting used less and less. - Spectrum
red, the other orange and last but not least green. The background for the main menu is an inverted scheme with the logo area containing the mentioned colors above. The startup screen has a variety of three JK2 logos. This is a pretty cool idea, but I think it’s a little too bright for me. A nice variety is added to try and please everyone, the startup screen isn’t too special. All things taken into consideration this is decent and the author spent his time making this so check it out and pass on the good word. Maddog
collage of the terminator endoskeletons with a fiery background with red lettering. The second is of Arnold standing next to the truck with a shotgun and red and yellow lettering. The last one is a close up of the eyes of a terminator endoskeleton with the same lettering as the first. To top it all of a few new sounds were added. This is a great assortment of startup screens with sounds, although the sounds aren’t that loud. My favorite is the one with the collage of the endoskeletons, just looks wicked. Great job, a nice variety for all of the Terminator fans out there. My only suggestion is that if you use this back up the original files so you can replace them when you are finished using these files. Maddog
saber clash theme. The sounds are now a lightsaber! Wee...While the change is nice, I found the sound when you go back in the menu to be a little too long, but, it\'s there. If you liked the previous version of this, then give this a try. You might like it more. ~Zach
surrounds him. And two very skinny sabers flanking either side of Luke. This is a decent start up screen for a first-timer. Though I\'m not fond of the sabers ... they just seem too slim to me and the symbol almost disappears behind the buttons. I also think it would\'ve been nice to have the buttons reskinned and maybe some new sounds added. Maybe there will be a second version? ~AmosMagee
screen that is complete with mouseover sounds. The author based this startup screen on the LCARS computer net seen on various Star Trek shows and movies. While this is more complete than most startup screens we see, it would\'ve looked much better had the buttons been modified as well. Other than that one little point, this is a good lookin\' startup screen and perfect for Star Trek fans who want a new look. ~AmosMagee
plain and not good at all. Some of the images are a bit blurred and should have been integrated together a bit better. There are new sounds though taken from the movie which aren\'t bad.
Qui-Gon enthusiast or any EP1 freak, this is a good startup screen. Personally, I dont like startup screens, but I dont have any problem with them. This one is good in detail but my personal opinion is that it could use some work, especially on the banner above the buttons. The green and the kinda... thin letters doesnt exactly fit in with the whole star wars theme. Id recommend using a font like "Star Jedi" or something like that. - Spectrum
with a spear in his hand. The Aragorn picture was already used in another start-up screen. There was a problem with the start-up screen and that was the Aragorn picture is covered up by the buttons. There are no new buttons and no new sounds, which is very disappointing. The problem with all these start-up screens is that the people who make the start-up screens don't make the pictures, all they do is make the pictures fit on the start-up screen. The look of the text is kind of strange to look at because it is separated instead of having it all together Overall this Start-up screen is quite plain, but the good thing is that you have something different to look at. So for all you Lord Of The Rings fans this is the start-up screen for you, unless you like one of the others. I was really disappointed to see that there were no new sounds or new buttons. Maybe Topp_matt can make another version with all those things included. -XgamerX New Sounds: No New Buttons: No
matrix code picture, but now it\'s just blurry. It would have been much better if everything wasn\'t blurry. New startup screens are nice, but not when they have poor image quality. The author mentioned in his readme that he doesn\'t know how to make this work in Jedi Academy. Since Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast are almost identical in terms of file structure, the installation is the same as if it was Jedi Outcast. You just put the image in the Install folder. ~Zach
large black empty space behind the buttons, and some paint style text with the title of the game above it. All in all, not that great of a startup screen, but I suppose if you are sick of the original, it would be an improvement. Give it a download if you want.
Dagobah to a certain extent, or even just matching Yoda. The border is kind of rough, and I think I can say with a good amount of certainty that Yoda's personality somewhat matches that border. Yoda was never one to sugar coat anything. The only thing I would have liked to see in this launcher than we don't get is new sounds. A good Yoda quote would have worked well as the launch sound, and mixing up the other GUI sounds would've been a bonus to the launcher, as the default ones can get a bit boring. Other than that, a solid launcher. It's not real fancy, but sometimes simplicity has its own benefits. ~Inyri
The background shows Aragorn on his horse, with a border of Elvish writing. When you open JK2, you hear the voice of Elrond. Click one of the buttons and you will hear either an orc scream at you, or the sound of a sword being un-sheathed. I\'m not one for things like this, but anything LotR tickles my fancy. That\'s why this start-up screen rocks! Usually these things aren\'t much of a change from the default start up, but this is definitely nice. Though Elrond\'s voice is slightly muffled, this is still worth downloading. ~Lord Griever~
if you pretend like Anakin and Darth Vader are actually one person (oh how I try...). Looks like we\'re missing at least one important person... Oh well. Download if you\'re looking for a somewhat artistically blocky launcher. ~Inyri
not bad for what it is. Give it a look-see if you're bored with the current launcher, just make sure to read the read-me before you use it! ~Inyri
fading of the characters outside the normal inner border is nicely done, and the colors go well with the re-done buttons. Nice effort. New Background: Yes New Buttons: Yes New Sounds: No Astyanax
Sometimes, simple is best. Though, I\'d love to see you work on the buttons and maybe put some new sounds in there. For those of you looking to add to your collection of LOTR start up screens, here\'s a worthy one to toss in. ~AmosMagee
new buttons and new sounds even! I think he did a great job with the buttons. Though the mouseover sounds are a bit tinny, they seem to work anyhow. The choice of background graphics and then the two pictures of an Uruk-hai and an Orc seem really mismatched. I would expect a darker, more ominous background with these two characters. More effort was put into this start up screen than most and for that alone, I have to say good job! ~AmosMagee
background. The person depicted is, of course, Boromir from Lord Of The Rings. As before, it is a simple but effective replacement for the default screen. I am not a fan of LotR myself, but I still found this as a good start-up screen. This is one of a many start-up’s by John Leitner, and I have to say; keep ‘em coming! showed when the disc is inserted. I have for everyone here a little startup screen mod that should get rid of the boringness a bit. The image in the background was changed to a red knight, which I thought looked pretty cool, though not very fitting of the Star Wars theme. :p When I put the cursor over the buttons, it made a sound like a blaster, which got a bit annoying after a few times of going over the buttons. The click sound sounded the same to me, but the sound for going back a menu was \"Don\'t Move, Jedi\" which was unexpected to me for some reason... Anyway, you know the deal... Give it a download if you are interested.

simplicity of it. You might too. Make sure you actually read the readme so you know how to use it. I must add that it would have been nicer if the readme wasn\'t in all caps. ~Zach
other startup screens I have seen, the buttons on this one do not block the image itself, at least the part that was intended to be seen. All it covers in this one is some ice and sky. So... Uhhh... is Ryoken Y.’s first start up screen, yet unlike with other authors first work’s its remarkably complete. The actual design of the background is simple and resembles the model icons from Jedi Academy, but in blue. However the image is a poor quality and you can see where the colours are supposed to merge together but, don’t. The sound when you load the start up screen is easily my favourite thing about the start-up simply because it reminds me of EVA from Command & Conquer. Unfortunately the word ‘Star Wars’ doesn’t quite fit properly as part of it is covered by the bar (unsure of what it’s technically called) at the top ~Wolf New Buttons: No New Sounds: Yes New Image: Yes

Ryojin\'s position holds though: if you like penguins, give this a try. It uses a completely different picture and text, and while I personally think the [file=\"78922\"]first version[/file] is of higher quality, I\'m not obsessed with penguins either. As a professional graphic designer, I do have a number of suggestions/comments about this file. 1) The colours just don\'t work. The deep red and yellow would go fine with the back ground, but the cyan just clashes like crazy! If you want to use a blue, I\'d suggest trying to pull a light blue from the background image itself. However, with the background being such a rich, dark blue where you have text, I personally would have done the text in white. 2) Layout of elements is poor. Nothing lines up and justification is out the window! Bring the \'Star Wars\' text down about 70 pixels or so, so it has the same amount of space between it and the title bar as it does between it and the left side. Line up \'Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast\' with the left side of \'Star Wars\'. This is called \'left justification\'. For your name at the bottom, either left or right justify this. You are currently center justifying it, and that rarely works with existing left or right justifications. Also raise it from the bottom a bit so it\'s half way between the buttons and the bottom. 3) I\'d get rid of the underlines you have on all the text, or expand the underlines into more of a visual theme. Only use one colour for all the underlines, and maybe try stretching them to the edge of the screen. Perhaps all the way to the right for one, then alternate and stretch that one to the left. Also the embossing on the text is too fine for the impact I think you were going for. The way it is now it looks more like an aliasing issue than an emboss. Don\'t be afraid to do a heavier emboss on the text. Good luck and I look forward to your next submission! :) New Buttons: No New Sounds: Yes New Image: Yes -ShroomDuck

Also he removed the stone texture around the border of the original start up screen. The logo is interesting. Very tribal feel to it. I like it, though it seems a bit too plain. There's a lot of "white" space at the top where "Star Wars" used to be. I would suggest new buttons with a new texture or at least new colors to work with the MW clan's colors and maybe a more interesting logo of sorts for their tag. changed - no new sound, no new buttons. It's just a couple of clashing sabers with a lens flare effect. While it may not be the most involved launcher ever created it does look okay, so for those hard core JO players out there it might be a nice change from the original JO logo launcher. original file or this will overwrite them. Simple but very affective, which is probably why I like it. I like the idea that the sounds were changed as well making this a little more then a startup screen. My only suggestion would be to change the text colors and the little borders other then that this is a great replacement. Great work keep on moding. Maddog
not always. Like this startup screen. The BloodThirsty clan has this startup screen which features some really bad graphics, some cute sounds, but they\'re mostly just ... well, they fit the startup screen. Um, so yeah ... that\'s it. Oh, and the readme, is like, not right and stuff. ~AmosMagee
different game than the startup screen you made it for. :/ That aside, it simply is a replacement of the background. Obviously, not much effort was put into this screen. ~AmosMagee
cool. And a lot was changed to the look here. Unfortunately, I just don\'t like the thing as a whole. The colours kinda bug me, but that\'s just me. Maybe you\'ll like it. Though I can\'t see anyone but those in the clan wanting this. ~AmosMagee
merely slapped his clan logo in the corner. Not real impressed with the sounds. They are augmented voice recordings mentioning the New World Order clan.
