along with a few more footstep sounds. More noticeably, new battery pickup and health recharger sounds have been added. The sound pack is slowly becoming better each release, although there are still a few quirks. The sprint noise is a little too "long" for the sprint, as you don't always sprint long distances. It can seem odd to still be "running" when you've actually stopped spriting after holding the button down for a second. Other then that, this pack is quickly shaping up to be one of the better ones out there.
the previous ones and make them more realistic. This pack is quickly shaping up to be one of the better ones out there.
even more. A few of the weapon sounds have been improved, and sound a little cleaner and crisper. Also, "damage sounds" have been adde, so when the player is hit, they will cry out in pain/have the armor make noises. This is a pretty good update for the current sound pack, and it will probably only get better as the author creates and changes more and more.
WOTW sound pack when i finally got the movie, this is the result of that idea. ;) Thanks to Duml3 for helping me test the sounds. These sounds were recorded from the movie War of the Worlds -2005
ridicoulous. This is personal preference, however, as well I may prefer more serious gamplay, someone else may want more light-hearted gameplay. It's up to you. The .357 has only gotten better, and now sounds as powerful as it should be. The pistol sounds almost the same, except that it's a little more "scratchy" now, which I suppose is a little better. The shotgun noise should probably just be replaced with a completly different sound, as it just isn't of very high quality, and the sound itself seems to get almost cut off at the end of the shot. The SMG sound almost sounds like the M1A1 Carbine from Call of Duty for some reason. This pack is atleast an improvement, and with enough work, and enough sounds replaced intelligently, it could become a fairly good soundpack (minus the "humourous npcs" :D) -Madcat
difference between single and double shotgun blasts.
valve Software, i only edited them a bit so they fit in Half-Life 2 Retail. This is just a beta release, i still need to update the sounds, and find a way to make them loop, because now i had to stretch the 4th gear sound to 4 minutes in order to make it sound right.
for the footsteps. For some reason some of the sounds have a high-pitched frequency (around 13kHz) running through them which I found quite noticable and pretty annoying, especially when jumping and in quiet areas. I've removed it aswell as any noise that was present (some of them were really bad). I've included an example of an original sound versus the enhanced one. NB. I searched for anybody that had noticed the same thing as me but couldn't find a single example. It's possible that older gamers (ie. anywhere over 30) may not be able to hear the high frequencies due to age related hearing loss (see presbycusis) and it may be why this slipped past the developers.
distinction between the metal and conrete impact noises. The only problem with the new sounds really is that the concrete noises just don't really sound like something is hitting concrete. It sounds more like some kind of metal. The weapon sounds haven't been tweaked very much, except for having the quality enhanced somewhat. More new sounds have been added, such as health noises when you pick up a medkit, and new footsteps sounds for various surfaces, such as metal, concrete, grass, mud, water, and more. This mod is quickly shaping up to be among the better sound packs out there.
unbalanced and just plain annoying, such as many of the ambient gravity gun effects and the weapon HUD sounds. They are just way too loud for such constant events in the game, so he merely have reduced the volume maximums while (hopefully) keeping the quality of the original sounds. (also compatible with Lost Coast and Episode One (and some other mods too) Changes include reductions in volume from 50%-75% in the following areas: [*] Main Menu HUD [*] In-game Weapon HUD [*] Health/Suit pickups [*] Gravity Gun ambient effects
while other noises, such as the flashlight, or the suit rechargers have also been changed. The sounds themselves are well chosen, and fit well with the weapon they go with, they're also all very powerful sounding, and loud, which is good. The suit sound replacements are interesting, as not many sound mods have really replaced anything like that, making this mod among the first. :D This is a well done soundpack that's worth a try.
really stood out was the .357, and the pistol. All the sounds need to be a little louder, to help distinguish them a little more. The shotgun sounds like it's just the sound the shotgun makes when an NPC shoots it (ex. The Combine firing a shotgun make that same noise, which is different from your default shotgun noise). This is a decent sound pack if you want a little bit more variety in your weapon sounds.
