Lord of the Rings ~ The White City (Reviewed)

lord_of_the_rings_~_the_white_city_sp.zip | 9.4 MB

work ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reviewed by CoolSk8r32 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you haven't downloaded this map, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE BEEN MISSING!!! I'd call this one of the best maps on the whole AoM fansite network. GREAT JOB!!! This scenario covers the battles of Gondor and mordor, and is challenging and fun. Many quality triggers that and eye candy (not THAT much eye candy) that I could not accomplish myself. Much time and effort was put into this map. Download it. You start out with a base in gondor and in another city in the center of the map, which starts out during an invasion. That city falls and gondor must use its resources to create an army an invade mordor. Many events take place, such as the arriving of the riders of rohan and the journey into mordor to take out a major section of the enemy army at a settlement. Creative, useful, fun, clear, and everything else. Great map overall, Dave Young! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I must continually be amazed by such a wonderful map. What amazes me the most though must be the level of detail and eyecandy. That alone makes the map a mondo 9.4 megabytes large. You start off with a city in the center of the map, numerous farming areas, and the City of Minas Tirith. You use the resources from the cities to create an army to go and invade Mordor. Many events take place such as the arrival of the Riders of Rohan. Although when I went to explore the map, they attacked me for some reason unknown. A round of applause to DaveYoung and his maps. .::.the0thermonkey.::. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I apologize if i seem a little negative, but this isnt a 9.6 scenario. The map design of that city located at the corner of the map seems really detailed, but the other parts of the map arent very good. where is the grass, flowers, rocks, granite rocks along the fields and mountains? I was curious to see everyone so happy about this scenario. not many triggers were involved. no intro cinematics. what this scenario needs the most is more clear objectives, hints, and more background story. You suddenly start in this map with a mission of defending the city. Why are they attacking the city? who are they?. those questions were never answered when i was playing the game. these are some hints: 1). add the effect "Objectives" and add the objectives in there as well, with hints included. 2). make some sort of cinematic intro which mentions the background story of why are these two civilizations are fighting eachother. if you dont know how to make cinematics, simply use the spotlight window located at the objectives window. 3). instead of the camera starting in just anyplace in the map, use the camera object and camera cut effect to have an exact point where the camera will focus The scenario is far too easy! you have infinite resources, 300 of population, and you already have armies which makes the population over 500+. i didnt even had to bother to create more army. the army which i had from the beginning was enough to kill all the enemies. There were also some villagers located in really tight places which couldnt get out. i had to delete some buildings in order to take them out. there were other villagers that were just stuck in places like mountains, which at the end, just caused a waste in population. The enemy AI you assigned to player 2 is useless. it doesnt do anything at all. The scenario is basicly "Kill all player 2 units", which really, it isnt much fun. there are some things to realize. you forgot to disable "Omnience". with the amount of infinite gold, i was able to get omnience with no problem and located my enemies and kill them. the thing that annoyed me was that if all players 2 units are not dead, then i will not win the game, unless the AI sends a message of surrending. also, when the game ends, there is actually no conclusion. the enemies are dead, but what happens? hints: 1). come up with real objectives other than killing units 2). make it more challenging by adding surprice attack to the city 3). disable omnience and the titan gate at: player data/forbitten units 4). sometimes looping music will not sound so well. oh, and talking about music, i put the sound file in the sounds folder but it didnt work. 5). when you want to play a music file, use the effect "Music File Name". you can also use Music Play to make the average culture music play. 6). instead of changing the reinforcements(like the army of when the king returns army from one player to another, use cinematic blocks and use the effect change unit type(from cinematic block to unit) 7). make the enemy more active. most of the time player 2 units just stand there. move them around the map. another problem i encounter was some lag due to the amount of units used. oh, there was also an army of player 2 located and the opposite corner of the white city, which never moved during the game. FINAL COMMENTS: It is an scenario with basic triggers, an average in map design, but not an scenario which can meet the standards of achieving a 9.6. none the less, good job. dont take my comments in the negative way, they are just hints to help you out in the future My rating: 4 REVIEWER: AURON_2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Battle for Helm's Deep (Reviewed)

the_battle_of_helms_deep_beta_sp_.zip | 279.66 KB

events that can alter the outcome of the battle. There are at least two super secrets that can only be triggered by a specific hero unit. You have limited balistas so use them wisely. You also have food generators that produce new animals for food every so often. Planning on defending Helm's Deep until the enemies run out of resources? Well that won't happen. Aside from the regular resources around them, they both get resources at a regular rate. Also there is a time limit to win the game. The limit is 7 Days which is just over 2 hours of game play. This is plenty of time so you don't have to rush to win, but ultimately there is a limit. There's a day/night lighting cycle and mother nature influences as you do battle with the two towers. This game does not follow the Hobbits quest and it's not an accurate recreation of Helm's Deep, just an inspired one. This Scenario was designed to be played on moderate difficulty level. Other levels have not been tested. ----------reviewed by shimano55---------- This is a very well made map. The map is very well designed and Helms Deep looks very much like it looked in the movie. be forwarned, this is a very difficult scenario to win. Evan with the large group of reinforcements that you recieve the enemy forces are very large and hard to defeat. The map looks very real with well used eyecandy and ambient objects. Even though this is a very difficult map, I recommend it to ALL downloaders. I played it once and I was awstruck. The details were amazing. Right down to the battlefield. This is a very good download. A must for all LOTR lovers. The map used quite a few triggers that I myself have never heard of or used for that matter. The map was very difficult to play as the enemy kept coming back and also, as I discovered, had a timelimit set to it. Approximately 7 days which is somthing close to aroun 2 hours. I reccomend it to all avid LOTR fans. .::.the0thermonkey.::.

The Battle for Middle Earth (Reviewed)

the_battle_for_middle_earth_sp.zip | 998.07 KB

is a quest to find frodo. It is long and does get boring soemtimes, and seems to be like a random map but it is fun to play most of the time. It really wasn't what i was expecting when i saw the title but hey, we can't always get what we want, or rather expect, because i didn't actually want it. So basically, it is a long scenario. The scenario is very good. It could use some cinematics but it is of high quality. The map design is nice but maybe it coulda give you some greek units to control. Maybe you coulda been the greeks as they suit elves best i think. It doesn't have the Lord of the Rings story, no, Gaia won't appear in a fourth LotR people... and the Rings won't return and so on. Anyway, i'd like to compliment connerfrey and reccomend it.

05/26/03 Map: ‘War of the Ring’ ID: 12297 Overall rating: 90% Breakdown: Creativity: 10/10 Challenge: 10/10 Map usage: 10/10 Enemy buildup: 10/10 Player buildup: 0/10 Resource Placement: 10/10 Amusement: 10/10 Interest Level: 10/10 Messages: 10/10 Objectives: 10/10 Comments: This map is an absolute must. You haven’t played AOM until you have played this scenario. The only reason the rating is 90% is because you, as the player, are utterly under built in comparison. This might as well be categorized as a map set to ‘Titan’ for difficulty. It’s possible, easy even after you build up, but very hard to survive the first attack. OOPS! I’ve said too much!

ragnarok_updated_sp.zip | 10.8 MB

in that were unexpected but nevertheless, still good. It is a beatiful map, the realms are portrayed very nicely and i reccomend this for download, if you havn't done so already. This is the inspiration to my first succesful (?) scenario: Battle of Gloinhelm. But back to complimenting the author. Great job Michael. This is an update... The author had this to say: In this particular case I assumed that the player would play defense from the outset of the scenario and wait for the enemy to come to him. But if a player decides to send the gods out right at the beginning, it's possible for him to pretty much destroy the giants before the war even starts. And that would take all the fun out of it. In this slightly modified version of the scenario, the player can't do that. All I did was keep the gods and giants neutral to each other until the giants attack. That takes away the possibility of a pre-emptive strike on the players part.

In the hand of the Roman tribune Marcus Scarus was the spell-scribed sword of a Druid priest. The Celtic chieftain Viridovix held a similar sword, bespelled by a rival Druid sorcerer. Then, as the two swords touched, a dome of golden light flared out and surrounded Marcus, Viridovix, and three cohorts of Caesar's legions. The next moment, they found themselves under a strange night sky where no stars were familiar and where Gaul and Rome were unknown. They were in an outpost of the embattled Empire of Videssos - in a world where magic and dark sorcery would test their skill and courage as no Roman legion had ever been tested before. Domain’ ID: 13771 Overall rating: 99% Breakdown: Creativity: 10/10 Challenge: 10/10 Map usage: 10/10 Enemy buildup: 9/10 Player buildup: 10/10 Resource Placement: 10/10 Amusement: 10/10 Interest Level: 10/10 Messages: 10/10 Objectives: 10/10 Comments: I liked how most of the gold was protected by a ‘neutral’ computer player who occasionally would attack but guarded the gold for the most part. I say ‘neutral’ because it was an enemy to both myself and my own enemy yet didn’t build any forces. You, as the player, start with a very small party and must claim a settlement. The options are to take one that is open and face the guardians of the gold, or destroy one of your enemies and take it. I destroyed one only to surround myself with the enemy buildings. After a good 15 minutes I had a working village that could defend itself and started building an army. I will continue to play this map over and over with different strategies because it is that fun. This map poses a challenge and yet is still winnable with some effort. Reviewer: t0m This map was interesting but for the most part bad... I did not like the lack of gold (I needed it as I was playing as Greeks) I was attacked continuosly throughout the game (The horror never stopped) and just when I seem like I am cowering in a corner, the enemy lays off its relentless pursuit of me. Then I come in and take over the map, forcing the enemy into a corner. I give this map on a scale of 1 to 10, a 7. Good but not the best.

personally enjoy maps that have a good story and aren't just shallow recreations of events. THis map also lacks greatly in eye candy and triggers. I must admit that I expected moe from this map when I was hearing about it on the forums. What happened to all the "We need voices for some of the triggers that we have," and all the other threads talking about how create the triggers and cinematics that it would have. I also DO understand that this is a beta version, but if the createors expect it to be anything like was expected by the general public.....they have a lot of work to do. I do not reccomend this mpa for downlaod. -shimano55 ---------------------------------------------

Heart of Darkness (UPDATED) (REVIEWED)

heartofdarkness3.zip | 315.21 KB

encounters dangerous creatures and increasingly strange situations. If he makes it to the end of the river, he must destroy the temple to reveal the dragon. Victory is achieved when the dragon is killed. Reviewed ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an updated version of a previously submitted scenario and I have to say that this scenario is now very high quality. My previous criticisms included the apparent lack of a storyline. The author has improved this though in the new version by including a short but sweet introductory cinematic and a description of the storyline in the objectives. The whole purpose of the scenario is crystal clear now and the scenario is now more appealing. This storyline is that a dragon has taken over Arkantos\' town and he, along with Ajax, must fight to win it back. Although this is not the most original storyline, the scenario in itself is still quite fun to play. However, the story really isn\'t described in the cinematic, which for all intents and purposes, consists only of a camera track. This is perfectly adequate though and does look quite good, but I\'d suggest that in future scenarios the author should try something a little more challenging, such as adding dialog, special effects, and different camera angles to his cinematics. Nice work all the same though ;) My comments on other aspects of the old version file still stand and are as follows: The map is very well designed and there is plenty of eye candy to be seen. All parts of the explorable map were covered in trees, grass, bushes and other embellishments, for which the author should be commended. It is also evident that a great deal of time was spent in designing the \'paradise\' part of the map and the ruined city - which both looked quite amazing. A good deal of terrain blending was used for a more natural look. The author clearly also had a fair knowledge of triggers. Overall, this is a well designed scenario and is satisfyingly fun to play. eat: it was a Hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.\" - The Hobbit, by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien The scenario \'The Hobbit\' chronicles nearly every major plot point in the novel, from the encounter with the Trolls to the Battle of Five Armies. I tried to stay as close to the original story as possible, incorporating a lot of dialogue straight from the book. Other features include: - Different gameplay methods such as stealth and strategy - RPG elements such as sub-quests - A level-up system based on the number and type of enemies you kill - A bonus mission should you reach high enough a level - Cinematic cut-scenes render important points of the plot - An \'html\' readme file which contains many tips and tricks, as well as a comprehensive walkthrough for every sub-quest and power-up in the game - Different modes of gameplay for beginners and experts NOTE: The scenario can theoretically be played on all difficulty levels, with varying degrees of difficulty respectively. I would play on \'Easy\' though, for that is what I based my play-testing on. Enjoy!

The Battle of 'Gloinhelm' (REVIEWED)

battle_of_gloinhelm_sp.zip | 2.99 MB

starts out with a cinematic and very mood-matching music. You then are given control of the army and the king, who is the only way you can win this map. The trolls immediately start attacking, and are easily defeated. Then mountain giants come. Easily defeated, but harder than the trolls. Each next invasion is stronger than the last, ending with a fire giant attack that has enough power to kill Demi-God ("uber") Arkantos. It finishes with a camera cut at the gates, and mediocre conclusion. Download this one, it's pretty good. Dorian does a good job of the terrain, but the trigger timing is sometimes sketchy. Some of the invasions are too spread apart, and Reginleif can heal your whole army back before more giants come. Overall good; a very skillfully made map, and if it had a good storyline, it would've gotten a much better rating. Good design, but cliche storyline. Still fun.

Map Design: same like you other scenario siege of troy. it needs more terrain textures, details like rugs, pots, grass, ETC. spread the buildings around a bit. is a little boring to see them alligned. Balance: player one has way too many buildings, units, and resources. you start off with a bunch of villagers, which made it too easy to advance to classical age. not only you start with a wonder, armory, and market, but you already have enough army to almost take over players 2 base! during the entire game, player 2 didnt do anything. next time, go to player data/AI/ and put to player 2 this AI: aomdefaultai.xs this AI will make player 2 to be active, build, and attack player 1. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, put a few of your units at the gate with the drain. Put the rest at the back besides a line of archers seperating the gate... make sure that all unit stances are defensive and keep your cavalry where they are. Fight to the death with the men at the gate (when the gate blows) and then use your archers to fight a few off then send a group of warriors to the gap in the gate. Keep doing so. When your units are gone, or you think its the right time to go out on the plains get your riders! IIt is good, besides the AI bugs which im sure Gamie can fix by version 2. Good work.

made map in which you control Ajax and a medium-sized army. The point of the map is to destroy the enemy fortress that lies to the North of your starting postion. It is quite easy to break through the enemy forces to reach the fortress. While the design and look of the map is quite simple, Dutchpower used eyecandy very well to give the map a very forested feel. The objectives in the scenario are good as well as the occasional chat message. The scenario is quite easy to win, but that does not lower the amount of fun you have with it. I don't recommend this scenario.

There is no storline. Esencially all that you do is build a small army and defeat your enemies. The dwarves help you everry so often with gold. This is an all around good map and will keep you occupied for a good 30 minutes. I recomend it to downloaders. A nice scenario battle against the Norse.

really, you are always looking back for reinforcements. I loved the centaurs i kept pouring into battle and it is very challanging because your enemies get reinforcements to. For Fun Factor i gave it 7, and for Balance: 10. The triggers work alright, not very advanced but still, they work. There are no errors and you get your units! For Tech i gave it 5. As i have mentioned it is not of high quality. The texture seems to be rushed and the walls are messy. You get villagers, uneeded and i can;t quite figure why you are given the great hunt god power. There is a bit of open space around your base and it is not creaticly made. Check above for it's marks. The installation instructions are not very good and the readme, extrememly short. It gets a low mark for installation instructions. Overall the map is messy, unproffesional, and seems rushed. With more marks against than for,it is not highly reccomended, but if you are up for a fun ESO battle then download it.

It looks like the creator generated it via the map editor and then added a few perks. Those perks are the only reason why it got even that little 2 for creativity. The only challenge is that you’re limited to 120 population once you max your houses because the only settlements are your town center and the enemy’s. There are some neat neutral units, which managed to achieve that 1 in challenge and 7 in map usage. I like how it goes from day to night. I managed to win with just 5 helepolis. There are no objectives, no messages. I wouldn’t suggest downloading this map; just generate one with your game. The most amusement I got was from watching the Pegasus fly over cliffs.

CoolSk8r32 - Da Mazta ov Dizaztah! Well, it's not bad. The creator of this map probably doesn't know how to random map script, so he made a single player random map style scenario. The map isn't bad, its a combination of watering hole, aflheim, and macedonia with some elephants and other animals. I can't make a random map either, so I can see how he feels. I don't play multiplayer, but you would play an advanced setup game and choose this as the scenario (two-players only!). It is a good download, but maybe someone could random map script this as an update. Just a thought. Overall good!

though. there are no special myth qualities or anything. Anyways, the map is well made, with well placed trees and other ambient features. The island is like a large desert island with pine trees. A little hard to imagine, but not too fantastic to believe. The only con that have about this map is that there is no AI script, so the computers on the map just stand there. I'm not sure if the author was submitting just the map, or a random map. KillZaw, I would suggest that you resubmit this map with an AI script as a Random Map. I don't recommend this map for download, mainly because of the absense of an AI script, but with one, this map would be a GREAT dowload.

Centaurs of Erebus (Reviewed)

centuars_of_erebus_sp.zip | 63.99 KB

Arkantos is trapped in a prison to the North and we must rescue him. I thought about now that this was slightly more creative than the traditional 'Bandits are attacking' plot. Creativity points there, heh. Now I notice that Arkantos in the prison is on your team, and fully controllable! He also has two villagers with him in the poorly designed prison (???). There are a few guards, but you just bolt one of them, or (if you have titans) bolt all of them with some of the four bolts that are given to you! Arkantos escapes completely on his own and you meet up with the centaurs and Chiron. At this time you are advised to build a settlement to the North, so you take your villagers and army and go up to the settlement. By now I've noticed that the scenario creator didn't bother to give you any resources to build the settlement! I cheated one-thousand of each resource and started building a base. Basically you wait for the villager to finish the settlement, then you begin a low-resource one-villager starting game. I was not about to build fifty units like the objectives said, as with one villager and very little resources that would take forever and is NOT what a scenario player wants to do. Minus a LOT of FunFactor points here. Now, I'm pretty pissed off and go to the 'Abyss', which is in the center of the map. I see a dialog saying 'Zeus has blessed us!'. I have reached the abyss now, and nothing has happened except I see a dead guardian standing by a Trojan Gate between two cliffs. I thought to myself: 'This is the abyss??? And the scenario creator advised me to build an army of fifty first?!?! I beat down a few anubites and einherjars, and then the scenario is over. I regreat having played this. As usual, the creator of this put so little effort into this scenario... You really don't need the reinforcements of centaurs he gives you! There is so little judgement in this scenario it seems that the creator didn't test it. I do not recommend it.

Ballte For Pelennor Fields Reviewed

battleonpalennor.zip | 519.52 KB

everything yourself. What I mean by this is that there are NO cinematics, NO displayed objectives, NO army moves, and NO renaming of units...so you have to take a guess at who is who....I spent very little time playing this game becasue of its easy setup. It is also very unrealistic to the movie and book. The first thing that the little chat tells you to do is retake Osgiliath..which doesn't happen in the real thing. The rest is pretty straight forward. The feeling that I get after playing this map is that creator just made a VERY basic map(no trees, water, or other eye candy) and expected everyone to think that it was a good recreation of the Battle of The Pelanor Fields. For a first map...it is not horrrible. But if the creator wants to release trulely well done maps..he is going to have to do better. I don't reccomend this to downloaders. -shimano55 ------------------------------------------

your ally you have todefeat the Nidhoggs as well as the other enemy forces. This was an interestingly set-up map. The item placement in the city is very exotic. The healing spring is sorrounded by phenix eggs and your city is mostly in grass, but the cliffs around it are Hades type land. This makes the map look unnatural and fake. Another con that I have about this map is that there are no triggers. It's just an all-out battle with the enemies and their Nidhoggs. I do not recommend this map for download.

Another army lies on the other side of the map, made up of all myth units, including seven+ fire giants, countless scarabs, and two niddhogs. The fight is rather biased to put it lightly. Then you must manuever your army around pointlessly placed cliffs and rivers to the battlefield. The eye-candy leaves much to be desired, as does the gameplay. -- Reviewed by Zeus174

map. It looked like it was going to be a cool map in which you have to become the new Gladiator of an arena by defeating waves of hungry animals. The cinematic wasn't bad, and more than adaquate for the purpose of the map, but after the first few seconds of the cinematic, the scenario brings up the "You have been defeated screen", but the cinematic onctinued until the end, where the scenario reported an invalid function entry. This is usually casued by the incorrect entry of a trigger. My suggestion for the developer is to test his/her maps before releasing them to the general public. It would sure save a lot of errors, and wasted time on the developers part (has to go back and fix the errors). I think that with some work and devotion, this could become a decent scenario. Through many realms that reminded me of the Lord of the RIngs, with a Fellowship. You go through the land that could be thought of as greek, then though the snowy norse type terrain and then the sands of egypt for a short while. When you get to the dark realms and have to travel through until you get to Atlantis. I don't want to say more, but there is more after that. Then the camera zooms right in and Arkantos speeks and starts to walk. The cinematic ends and you have to zoom out yourself. You will see Setna and three men running towards you. You have 4 heroes all streonger than there strongest units. Guess what? Defeat them and you have one. Well that was pretty easy, besides the map looking good, the cinematic also being good there is nothing special about this scenario. Infact, those two good points are not special either. Please reqork this, when it started i was expecting a great scenario, that could easily be linked to more of your work to become a brilliant camapaign. Heart of Darkness (REVIEWED)

encounters dangerous creatures and increasingly strange situations. If he makes it to the end of the river, he must destroy the temple to reveal the dragon. Victory is achieved when the dragon is killed. Review ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The story of this particular scenario is somewhat unclear. No introductory cinematic and the instructions are fairly rudamentory and not particularly descriptive. The general gist of the scenario is that for some unknown reason there is a temple on the map that needs to be attacked and the dragon that guards it killed. In this respect therefore, a neat little cinematic at the beginning of the scenario or even a story given in the initial objective would have improved my overall impression of the scenario. However, having said that, this is one particular scenario that does have a great deal of potential. The map is very well designed and there is plenty of eye candy to be seen. All parts of the explorable map were covered in trees, grass, bushes and other embellishments, for which the author should be commended. It is also evident that a great deal of time was spent in designing the 'paradise' part of the map and the ruined city - which both looked quite amazing. A good deal of terrain blending was used for a more natural look. The author clearly also had a fair knowledge of triggers. Overall, this is a well designed scenario and is satisfyingly fun to play. this map. You are stuck in this tiny space between a cliff and a layer of walls. Myth units attack you, and there is only one wave. That's the scenario. I normally give long reviews, but I can't do that here. This scenario lasts about 5 minutes, and is as boring as you can get. It lacks just about everything but the bare minimum. He actually pressed the 'Place Cliff' button a few times, and he painted some sand on. Then he stuck a migdol right smack dab in front of the entrance which really annoys me. Then he tried to look cool by using a 'cinematic'. This 'cinematic' is an annoying, swaying camera track looking at the MUs attack you. I think Asmodeus2 needs just a bit of work to do with his mapping... I do NOT recommend this file. I also have to mark him down in his readme for saying the possibly wrong folder, as not all gamers install their games to the directory he provides. To Asmodeus2: If this sounds harsh, please note that I cannot give a better review than I found your map to be. I understand you're a beginner, but maybe you shouldn't submit your maps until they are good enough. Sorry.

;). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REVIEWED BY AURON_2: The scenario really seems to be worth having. it features some amaizing cinematics that play really well along with the story. unfortunatelly, the scenario is in Italian, which made it hard to review and make comments on. Map Design is colorful, full of new ideas, good terrain mixture, overlapping, with some really nice tricks along with it. I didnt find many problems with the scenario. the scenario/objectives seems tobe playing really smooth. however, since its in italian, i couldnt really understand the story line, and objectives, so no points added-substracted from this category. The scenario Is a chanllenge if you dont understand italian. also, the cinematics are over too long that sometimes just ruins the funfactor, but just some minor bugs.

great in this scenario, a few spelling errors, but that's all. The town layout is great, and on the minimap it feels like a sprawling town. The garrison is also good. It is a hard map to face and if i can offer one top: In the fight (at the garrison) go for the archers at the back, and protect your heros! I reccomend this scenario, it is ver nicely done. except with a little more effort. KillZaw has done a very good job with this. The only thing that would make it MUCH better, would be a random map script so taht it could be used from the random map menu in Age of Mythology. Also, some triggers would have made it better. Like a day to night cycle or something. Right now it is just a modified Anatolia. Very well done, though. I reccomend it. Reviewer: shimano55 ----------------------------------

You start with just a towncenter and 3 villagers and you build up your economy and attack. The map is quite plain in most parts, but has some nice areas. The developer tried to put objectives in the map, but forgot to put in the correct trigger to diplay his objectives. It was a nice, quick map, but I do not recommend it.

There are no objectives that are displayed ingame. You have to guess at what to do next. The map is layed out in an interesting way, with a large stream of lava in the middle, cutting off half of the map. The map does include a lot of eye candy which makes it somewhat pleaseing to look at. Though, the lava is very out of place in the grassy map. I don't reccomend this map for download. Hades's Home (Reviewed)

becasue the second I started the map up, it said I was victorious. If the purpose of this map was just to create a place, than the triggers served their purposes, I suppose. But otherwise, it DEFINATELY needs some work. If the point of this map was to create a place, and that place happens to be Hades, home, as the title implies, than, in my opinion, this map needs some work. The map is just like to layers of Walls of Troys with fire/smoke in the middle, and Citadels lined up to form a fan-like figure around the outsides. It is not very detailed, and is uninteresting to say the least. I'm sorry, but I don't recommend this map, mainly because there are no objectives or purpose except for viewing. One last thing, please make the scuffle between Arkantos and the Avengers / Einherjars right after the Underworld Passage a bit easier. It is hard to beat that, and you should take out one Avenger - that isn't a part of the map that I should have to try over and over again to beat. to "Waterfall.mp3" from the original composition by Clint Mansell "Requiem Overture." I listen to Requiem every day, and I did not like that the developer changed the name without giving proper credit. FYI, Requiem Overture was the music used in the Two Towers trailer, and it was also used by NeoSoft_Studios when creating the trailer for "The Siege of Troy" campaign. 2. The use of camera is awesome, with dramatic cuts and tracks, although the triggers are very delayed and need to be "prioritized." There are often periods of time when one simply sits and looks at water or grass for about five seconds while the music plays... not too good. Overall however, not bad, recommended for download, it's about 2 minutes long, and you can tell the author has had experience with scenario design.

Olympius VS Erebus Reviewed

to stop Gargarensis from opening the Hades Gate, and freeing Kronos, the God of Chaos. The scneario starts by showing a cinematic where Zeus informs Arkantos that he must kill Gargarensis again, and than gives him LARGE amount of reasources...hehe. There are many places to build an army form in your large city in the middle of the map. You have fortresses, archerys, barracks', and stables, and can build almost every unit possible for the Greeks to build. After you get a large enough army, you can head towards Gargarensis's base in Erebus. This map is not easy by any standards. In the enemy base there are fortresses that rain arrows upon your army followed by waves or infantry/archers/and cavalry. The teel you the truth, itn took me a few times to beat it. :D Even though this map is not bad, im not saying that there is no for improvement. The terrain could be a bit more interesting. Adding forests, water, and some eye candy wouldn't hurt either. The cineatic could be a little more enticing as well. Currently it zooms a bit to quickly across the screen. I'd definately slow that down. There could also be more triggers, and secondary objectives to make it more interesting. Even though this map is a quick play, I still recommend that you give it a try and see what you think. -shimano55 ------------------------------------------------------

Home Coming (Reviewed)

homecoming.zip | 103.2 KB

thus rushes you into the scenario with a mediocre intro, but at least he's taken the time to make a cinematic, however not-so-great it might be. You pretty much watch Ajax run down a path for a while. Then the scenario starts; this is probably the most common plot for a scenario. He says: 'What the...' and whadaya know, cyclopes are attacking your town. You take your spread out crappy army and beat back the cyclopes, and you are transferred into another cinematic. Ajax talks to his father, who says that the cyclops have been attacking for a few days, and now some imitation heroic dialog, ending with Ajax: I WILL FIND OUT THE SOURCE OF THESE ATTACKS! or something like that. Now some of the villagers start working and you task the other on farms etc. Right at this point you notice that there is some pretty good eye candy in this map, like the area around the temple, which is isolated from the city and has villies praying at it. There is no music even up to this point, degrading the FunFactor heavily. You wait a few minutes playing a normal, extremely uneventful time, and then about 10 cyclopes attack. You by now have had no chance to rebuild your army and you are completely undefendable and you have no other choice. At this point you could either lose the scenario or cheat. TINES OF POWER comes in handy. With about 30 forkboys, you beat back the invading cyclopes (Cyclopes use their special ability to instantly kill forkboys, but there is no other option besides mass cheating or extremely harsh rebuilding). I took about 10 more forkboys and created a small defense army. I tasked all of my villagers on wood and gathered 300 wood, thus able to build a barracks, archery range, and a tower. I trained a few hoplites, got bored and attacked the northern cyclopes. You have perfect knowledge of approximately how many enemies you have to face, because the teams are listed in plain view on the right side; the creator of the scn didn't bother to hide them from view. Needing all of my units, I travel north and just barely defeat the proportionately-to-your-army gigantic force, and the scenario ends with a camera cut of Ajax seeing an underworld passage and then the scenario ends. The conclusion has no point to it. An ending title comes up and says 'Victory!.' You are presented with a traditional 'Next Scenario' screen, but obviously there is no second scenario and you are taken back to the main menu. Overall, meh. I don't recommend it. I mean, the creator of this needs to know what effort is. His eye candy isn't bad, but the triggers are completely generic and way out of proportion. I'm sorry I had to cheat, I know, lol, but there was that option or never be able to review it, so... Seriously, Tranceman, update this! Besides all this, there is no readme!!! Come on, at the very least write something. TO ALL WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO INSTALL SCENARIOS: Put the .scn or (Titans only) .scx file in your ...Age of Mythology/Scenario program files folder.

problems: 1). Map Design: The scenario needs more different terrain texture. buildings are too aligned, spread them through the map. i suggest using objects like pots, rugs, columns, markets stalls, grass, ETC 2). Balance: What player was I supposed to be? When I played this scenario i was playing as player 2. I was given 3 plentys, a bunch of villagers, buildings, ETC, which really, didnt make it a challenge at all. besides starting with high resources, map revealed, and 300 of population, you already start with a large army, that can easily take out greens army. i suggest adding a little more challenge by making player 2 start from the archaic age, and not giving the player such a large army and resource to start off. Green and blue doesnt seem to be ally or at least neutral to each other. so i sended my scout, and make greens army follow my scout and into blues army, killing almost all of greens army. blues army has 2 gate rams which are usless. when the counter reach a certain time, one gate ram is teleportted to players 2 gate. however, these gates DO NOT cause damage to anything at all! Even before player one moved to my base, i had enough time to build an army and kill about half of blues army. when blues army moves to players 2 base, it will no attack until it reaches a certain point. i suggest putting the optiob put more enemies around the map. put player 1 army and greens army to attack different places. oh, about cinematics. i guess they were okay, but there were many speeling errors. to make the objective window appear, use the effect. you wrote the objectives but you forgot to add this objective. player 2= overpowered

follows the story of Ajax as he quests to destroy the "Master's" lighthouse. He has to capture a city and build an army befroe getting a transport ship and saliing to the light house. This map WOULD be difficult if it were not for the fact that upon arrival at the your city you recieve two gaurdians...... After you sail accross the river you simply have to destroy the master(living posiedon), and posiedon lightning statue, and destroy the twp lighthouses. This map lacks in eye candy and developed triggers. The only triggers that were used were the "Chat Message" and the "Unit Change Owner". Even though the creator makes good use of these, they are just not complex enough triggers to really add to the scenario. The terrian on the map is mostly grass and trees that help to establish the paths that Ajax and his army must follow. I don't reccomend this map for download. -shimano55 --------------------------------------------------

something like Miami or such a place. You need to clear away the mutant humanoids from the city. The plot is not very original but the eye-candy is great. The city looks like a demolished city in Florida with roads, palm trees (some even burning), and sandy beaches. The scenario uses the orc mod from the LotR Texture Modpack. Overall, the story is only so-so, but it makes up for that in the map creativity and is worth downloading. More installments might bring this story into a perfect review. -- Reviewed by Zeus174

country, he finds himself in a rainy, muddy marshland. They are going to Zartos City, a place where they will rest up before continuing their journey. However, when they reach Zartos City, it is empty... REVIEWED -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The cinematic describes an adventure of Ajax after he and a small contigent of troops are left supply-less and virtually stranded in a wolf-infested forest. They make their way to near-by Zarto city for rest and recouperation only to discover that the city is seeminly empty, caused by a betrayal from the ferryman on the river Styx. The cinematic itself is very well designed. The storyline itself is a little weak, and perhaps a little unimaginative, but this is more than made up for by the high quality technical aspects of the cinematic. The author made excellent use of camera angles to provide mood and suspense as well as well orchestrated and timed close-ups of the main characters. The transformations of the city during the arrival of cerberus with the meteors and special effects was brilliantly carried off and the flashes to blood red screens were absolutely fantastic! Music and animations were also well utilised and provided atmosphere to the cinematic in crucial moments. However, the dialog at times came across as cheap and probably could have done with modification. That and the storyline were the only aspects that dropped the rating slightly. Otherwise the cinematic is brilliantly constructed and at times awe-inspiring. A good baseline for anyone looking for inspiration and guidance on how to construct a quality cinematic. The River (Reviewed)

sp_the_river.zip | 95.94 KB

enemies with your army. Fun was taken out of this as you did not make your army from scratch you started off with it all. You also get many transport boats to start off with on one side of the river. The part that i did like about the scenario was when you approached the opponents beach it reminded me of the UK/US invasion of the normandy beaches in world war 2 off the medal of honour games. There however were no cinematics, no objectives, and barely any triggers if any. This took a great amount of fun out of it and in my opinion it was not that creative. The buildings of the enemy in most places were spread out right but there were a couple of exceptions where buildings are clumped together. This scenario could be a whole lot better if more time was spent on it. It could be great if cinematics, triggers and objectives were added to it. Reviewer : coolcronin

Reign - preview movie (Reviewed)

where an old man is telling some people a story about the begining of the earth and the rivalry between Gaia and Osiris (the evil lord). Osiris creates an egg which holds the Son of Osiris before Gaia banishes him to the evil realm taht he had created. After watching this preview, I can't wait to play the complete version. Great job Deceptive and I can't wait for the full campaign. I recommend for all downloaders to watch this preview.

The Mount Olympus Journey

another corner. There's a few fire-burned areas with some dead troops (see one of the screenshots). You start off with very little and I didn't notice any gold mines so you can't really get too far. Every time I attacked Mount Olympus, I was destroyed! Mount Olympus is heavily guarded by monsters and warriors. Like I said, there's not much to see or do here, but that's why it's a demo. It has some promising elements to it and what is there looks good. Nice starting point and I can't wait to see the finished product! NOTE: The full version is now available.
