RES Sculex (Hlai refit)

Description:

Created from plans for the older Hlai Class, the cruiser version was constructed in response to the need for increased firepower and speed. This modified Bird of Prey intergrated Klingon designs in

use by the Romulan Star Empire under the terms of a brief alliance between the two powers in 2268. A slightly heavier cruiser, the Hlai mounts two plasma mortars and many blast beams. This cruiser version was a point of great pride in the Romulan fleet, and it - like the Hlai Bird of Prey - were among the first ships to receive an upgrade to medium disruptor technologies once those became widely available. The RES Sculex detroyed the U.S.S. Cochrane (Oberth class), a suspected test-bed vessel for a Federation cloaking device, which greatly increased tensions between the two powers and ultimately lead to the Federation-Romulan war of 2311 (The Tomed Incident). Altough the ship has a TOS appearance, it received countless upgrades during the years - its balanced to be on par with TMP and The Lost Era ships. She can take on a Connie and even on an Excelsior, if played right. Taking full advantage of the cloaking device and close range fire she can even take down an Ambassador class. If you install the FTA v2 mod, the plasma torpedo will do more damage the closer you are to the target.
