Evangelion

Description:

Over the past couple years anime has become more and more popular. It probably all started with Dragonball Z. Then Pokemon and the other “children-targeted” animes came into play. I can’t be certain

where I started watching, but the series that most impacted me was Neon Genesis: Evangelion. The storyline is deep and complicated. The animation is beautiful and the action, when it’s there, is something truly amazing to behold. It’s only fitting that someone should honor this series by creating something in its image. I think Shinobi has done a fabulous job of that with his model of Evangelion Unit 01. This model is done pretty well. The skin is very nice and the model, when it’s standing still with its lightsaber put away, looks absolutely amazing. The colors are accurate and the look is just breathtaking. But that’s really all that’s good about it. The first thing you notice when you bust out your lightsaber is the shoulders. As soon as the arms move away from the sides, space can be seen where the shoulder should be. It’s not a huge, huge problem, but it is a big enough problem that it becomes something of a distraction until you get used to it. But, it runs and moves and holds its saber exactly as it should. Included with the model are four skins: the default from the series, a red version, a blue version and a dark version. The coloration on the red and blue skins is done very well. The shades and style match up almost perfectly with those of the Evangelions used by Rei and Asuka. Unfortunately, this is the Unit 01 model, so it’s not perfect, but it was done very well. The dark skin is reminiscent of one of the Evas that appeared in a later episode in the series. It went haywire and had to be destroyed. This skin, like the red and blue skins, doesn’t match with the model but still looks very good on it. There are a couple of things the author should really consider doing. Number one, there is no bot support. As always, this isn’t a huge deal, but it would be nice to have an Eva battle every now and then. Secondly, there are no new sounds. Since this is based on an animated show I don’t think there is any reason to not have new sounds. Instead of sounding like an Eva it sounds like Kyle running around and jumping and getting all crazy inside an Evangelion suit. This doesn’t work for me. And finally, and most importantly, the ability to select the skin from the menu should be added. I don’t understand why it isn’t there, but this does not show up in the skins menu. The author acknowledges this and tells you what to type in the console, but I don’t feel this should be necessary. Also, the red and blue skins, while looking like team skins, don’t seem to work in team games. I may be doing something wrong, but I couldn’t get them to work. I don’t know whether it’s because I’m such a huge fan of the series or something else, but I’m going to keep this in my base folder. A lot of work went into this model, even though it could use some touching up, and I can’t wait to see if Shinobi decides to do anything else. If those items get cleared up this could be one of the best models I have ever seen. It’s definitely on its way there now. - Daku Team Support: No (Unless I did it wrong) Bot Support: No New Sounds: No
